What are the effects of the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo on the hair?
The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo doesn’t just improve the health of your scalp, it also has excellent effects on your hair.
The rich essential oils from which the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo is made, along with naturally derived conditioning and moisture-binding agents, replenish moisture in the hair fibres and increase the hair’s strength and elasticity, so reducing breakage and leaving your hair feeling naturally healthy and in excellent condition.
Why is the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo different to conventional anti-dandruff shampoos?
The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo is unlike any other shampoo on the market. It is made with six natural therapeutic oils, Juniper, Tea Tree, White Thyme, Corn Mint, Eucalyptus and Rosemary Oils. All these oils are natural anti-microbials so control the levels of micro-organisms in the scalp which are often the cause of scalp problems.
In addition, the Juniper Oil has anti-mitotic properties so it slows down the rate at which cells grow in the scalp epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). This gentle, soothing action is very important for preventing further scale forming and for reducing scalp tenderness, irritation and inflammation. As your scalp turns from unhealthy to healthy it often follows that the condition and growth of the hair improves.
In contract, many ordinary anti-dandruff shampoos use harsh chemicals which, although they clear scale and give temporary relief, aggravate underlying sensitive scalp tissues and stimulate the epidermal turnover so causing more dead skin cells to build up on the scalp, dandruff flakes to form, and the problem to continue.
It is extremely important when treating scalp disorders that the treatment does more than just superficially clear scale from the surface of the scalp. If it does not have soothing and anti-irritant effect on the scalp so that the epidermal turnover is returned to a normal level the problems will continue to occur as excessive dead skin cells build up on the surface of the scalp and the underlying tissues become inflamed.
How do I use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo?
Wet hair thoroughly and apply the shampoo, gently massage into the hair and scalp and leave for about three minutes before rinsing to allow the active ingredients to take effect.
If you wash your hair daily one lather is enough.
For optimum results follow with our NEW Juniper Therapy Conditioner which is suitable for all hair types.
How frequently should I use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo?
For healthy scalps:
At the start use the shampoo every day or every other day, then as your scalp improves reduce to twice a week for a few weeks.
Eventually use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo once a week to maintain a healthy scalp and hair.
For anti-hair loss:
Washing the hair 2-3 times a week as in the University of Liège research should be taken as an absolute minimum usage level. Subsequent work has shown that washing the hair daily with a 1% piroctone olamine shampoo gives the best results. This should be continued for a minimum of 6 months, thereafter, if the hair growth to hair loss ratio has improved, use of the Juniper Therapy Scalp Shampoo can be reduced to 3 times a week, but frequent hair washing is still recommended.
Why should I use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Conditioner?
One of the problems with having any form of scaling on the scalp is that it can interfere with the flow of the skin’s natural oil (called sebum) along the hair shaft. Typically, the scale on the scalp acts like a sponge soaking up much of the oil from the hair follicles. This causes the scalp, and the hair close to the scalp, to become very oily. Because there is less oil to flow along the hair shaft the mid sections, and particularly the ends of the hair, become dry, dull and brittle.
The Juniper Conditioner is designed to ‘target’ the mid to end sections of the hair and to greatly improve its condition, elasticity and moisture content. Although it is made with organic oils it is still a light formulation that will not weight down the hair as some conditioners tend to do.
You will find that as your scalp becomes healthier and scale disappears that sebum no longer congregates on and near the scalp and starts to flow nicely along the hair shaft, conditioning the hair as it does so. This being the case you may need to use less of the Juniper Conditioner and, indeed, some people may not need it at all. Although we are proud of the Juniper Conditioner, we are happy to admit that our own natural skin oil is the best conditioner in the world as it’s made individually for each of us, and it doesn’t’ get better than that!
Who can use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Products?
The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo can be used by men, women and children aged 12 and older.
Can I use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Products in conjunction with other hair loss treatments?
The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as Finasteride (Propecia) or Minoxidil (Regaine or Rogaine).
Indeed, clinical use trials have shown that there is frequently a synergistic effect giving improved results. An example of this is with the use of Minoxidil.
The use of Minoxidil alone can have positive effects on hair growth in many people, as can the use of piroctone olamine in the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo.
But one of the drawbacks of Minoxidil, it being a topically applied lotion, is that if there is any build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the scalp (this may not be visible to the eye) they can act as a sponge which will absorb a high proportion of the Minoxidil lotion, thus preventing it from reaching its ‘target site’, the dermal papilla (the hair root) at the base of the hair follicle.
But when the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo is also used, not only is there a positive effect from the piroctone olamine, but it ensures that the scalp is clear of any material that could interfere with the absorption of Minoxidil or other such treatments.
Do caffeine shampoos reduce hair loss?
“In my opinion, NO they don’t. In 2007 a study was done in Germany which showed that when caffeine was added to human hair follicles in a laboratory dish under clinical conditions the caffeine, to a certain extent, stimulated hair growth. That’s interesting, but should not be the foundation for a shampoo that professes to stimulate hair growth!
There is the world of difference in having an effect with high levels of a substance applied directly to human hair tissue in a laboratory dish and putting it is a shampoo and hoping for the same effect. It’s not going to happen! I could bore you with the many reasons why not, but I won’t (but if anyone really does want to know please tell me).
No independent randomised, double blind studies have shown that caffeine in a shampoo has any effect on hair growth over and above a shampoo that does not contain caffeine.
